The experience and the aesthetic are two keys to enjoying your visit to cocktail bar, there Apothéke. Once you make your way through the dark, abandoned alley and find the elusive Doyers Street, count the address numbers until you find yourself outside an artisan wooden door. Once inside, let your fear subside and walkup to the nearest chemist wearing a lab coat. He’ll ask what medical cure you’re looking for, and create a cocktail to excite, inspire, or relieve.

Once an opium den, Apothéke now prepares legalized cocktails with organic produce from local greenmarkets or picked straight from their rooftop herb garden- talk about home grown. Apothéke was founded by Christopher and Heather Tierney, a brother and sister power-team. Christopher Tierney is an interior architect and designer, and the founder of premium brand, Coexist. Heather Tierney is a reputable restaurant critic, having reviewed “hundreds upon hundreds” of New York City’s best restaurants during her time at Time Out New York. These siblings paired their expertise and founded award-winning Apothéke, as well as the Apothéke Academy, an in-house cocktail mixing class for the public.

The menu is divided into curious categories like Stimulants, Painkillers, and Aphrodisiacs. Each is created with a unique mix of ingredients you won’t encounter anywhere else in the city. For example, the Stimulant cocktail, “Harvest of Mexico,” is created with roasted corn, Herba Sainte, Mezcal, agave, lime, and Habenero infused bitters.

Reminiscent of a hidden hookah bar (minus the hookah), the atmosphere will put you at ease as you enjoy your treatment, converse with a friend, or draw close into your date’s neck.
Apothéke is located at 9 Doyers Street
