WHY WE LOVE: In the great, wide world of makeup, it’s not every day that you stumble across something that can honestly be called interesting. Sure, great products are a dime a dozen, a fact that yours truly can attest to, but unusual enough to be interesting? That’s not as easy to come by. Thankfully the creative masterminds behind cult British beauty label Illamasqua have made it their mission to change that. Best known for their unapoligetically vivid shades, theatrical concepts and flawless matte finish lipsticks, the brand — led by makeup guru Alex Box — is no stranger to the weird and wonderful side of beauty. For spring, Illamasqua has amped up their already amazing lineup of Nail Varnishes with their new Speckled collection. Drawing inspiration from a very unlikely source, the irregularly spotted surface of bird’s eggs, the new colors are the centerpiece of the brand’s new I’MPERFECTION collection. These creme-finish polishes come in five limited edition shades, Speckle (lilac), Mottle (mint green), Fragile (pale blue), Scarce (rosy pink) and Freckle (neutral beige) that are shot through with a scattering of matte black glitter which gives them their eggshell finish. In lesser hands a pastel polish for spring would likely go unnoticed, but in Illamasqua’s these springtime hues have just enough edge to keep them on the right side of saccharine. Like spring, however, they’re not going to be around forever.
