Simplicity isn’t usually a word that’s associated with impact-making red carpet dressing, and yet some of the most memorable looks to walk the red carpet at the 2014 Academy Awards last evening were just that; simple, effective and — this being The Oscars — drop dead gorgeous. Riding the less-is-more bandwagon were Best Supporting Actress winner Lupita Nyong’o, who stole the night in a pale blue accordion-pleated Prada gown, Charlize Theron, channeling Seargant’s famous “Madame X” in a fitted black Dior Couture and Best Actress nominee Amy Adams in a sleek navy blue Gucci Premiére column that hugged every curve. Other standouts included Best Actress winner Cate Blanchett in an embroidered champagne Armani Privé, Kate Hudson in a platinum 30s-inspired Versace number, Jennifer Lawrence in fiery red Dior, Anne Hathaway wearing a black Gucci halter with geometric crystal embellishment, Sandra Bullock in a structured midnight blue Alexander McQueen, Jared Leto looking cool and elegant in Saint Laurent and an appropriately dramatic — though subtle by her standards — Lady Gaga in a sugary pink Atelier Versace with art deco beadwork.
