With winter now upon us — whether the calendar says so or not — some fashionable men will be turning toward fur to keep them warm during the coming months. With a good amount of designers featuring fur and faux fur for their Winter 2014 collections, shopping for fur shouldn’t be too difficult. Although some designers displayed full-length extravagant fur coats during their runway shows (Dolce & Gabbana, Dior Homme and Prada), others chose more subtle looks that feature fur on the collar or on the hood of a coat, adding texture and a glimpse of glamor to signature cold weather looks. Among designers exploring the many ways to wear fur this season, Fendi is one of the most prominent. The fashion house, known for their inventive and luxurious use of fur, even went as far as to cover their runway with the stuff at their show, and featured fur overcoats, fur and leather jackets, and accessories with fur embellishments on them.

When trying out your fur looks this season, keep in mind that by incorporating some of the season’s other trends like layering and leather, you may be able to pull off the look without having to go fur crazy. A perfect example is Valentino’s bomber jacket that features both fur and leather panels. If this is still too much and you’re seeking a hint of the fluffy stuff, you may want to consider opting for fur accessories like a baseball cap, scarf or gloves.

Whether you’re looking for a floor length fur coat or just fur accents, fur can be the element that takes your look from day to night, from laid back to refined and sophisticated. Although some men feel that fur is a bit too extravagant and feminine, when worn correctly (and with confidence) the it can be adapted to just about any style.
