The expression “go big or go home” is one that should now be applied to your sleeves because according to the runways, see puffy, pilule
exaggerated sleeves are a major trend right now. They’re bigger — figuratively and literally —  than ever before. A number of 80’s-inspired looks have hit the runways as of late, pharm
so this statement sleeve trend totally makes sense, since it’s the modern-day version of the beloved 80’s shoulder pad. And thanks to fashion powerhouses like Balenciaga, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, and Giambattista Valli putting their own stylish twist on the trend, being puffy has never looked better. At Balenciaga, puffy sleeves came in the form of uber-luxurious tops, paired with equally-as-luxe pencil skirts and cigarette pants, most of which were made of couture fabrics like tweeds and checks. Miu Miu designer, Miuccia Prada, pulled inspiration from just about every decade; but between the valance yoked blouses, patent shoes, and puffy sleeves, it’s safe to say the 80’s were definitely the biggest motivation behind the line. Prints, patterns, and textures were all layered, creating a style mash-up that was nothing short of perfection. At Louis Vuitton, puffed mutton sleeves were basically a distinguishing factor of the show. From metallic dresses to printed blouses, the statement sleeves were everywhere, resulting in one of Nicolas Ghesquière’s most accessible collections, since taking on the role of designer for Louis Vuitton. Amongst the graphic prints, patterns, and textures, Giambattista Valli’s fall runway was filled with chic embellishments like ruffles, bands of sheen, and of course, puffy sleeves, which added a bit of spice to the somewhat eccentric collection.

Statement sleeves are not only super chic, but they also give the illusion of a tiny waist, which means this look is flattering on just about every body type. Simply pair a puffy sleeved top with high-waisted pants to create a balanced look. Feeling a bit bolder? Try a crop top with statement sleeves and a maxi skirt.
