You know the old fashion adage: when the door closes on one creative director, another one opens for another and Saint Laurent wasted no time in naming Hedi Slimane’s successor, Anthony Vaccerello, as the new creative director.
This news is perhaps not shocking, since reports of his move from Versace Versus to the helm of Saint Laurent predated Slimane’s at the end of last month. It seems an appropriate choice, since he has a penchant for rocker clothing complete with high slit skirts, leather and lacing and therefore seemingly capable of continuing the Saint Laurent “look” purported by Slimane. But he still raises questions, since most people don’t know him. One thing that’s for sure is his commitment to Saint Laurent. Unlike Slimane who is steadfast to hold onto his name, Vaccerello does not seem to have the same attachment to his. He reportedly will shut down his own label, which has been around since 2009 so he could devote his focus solely on the brand, Saint Laurent.
