The one piece swimsuit is making a huge splash this summer and the proof is on the runways. Resort Collections for 2016 were full of the one piece suit and one of the biggest sub-trends to it was the cutout, making the one piece all about what the designer left out, rather than put in. The geometric slices, cuts, and slits are not only aesthetically appealing, but actually add sculptural drama to even the simplest of silhouettes — explaining why the once boring one piece has suddenly transformed into the hottest swimwear trend of the summer. Think you’re not cut out for the trend? Think again. With so many designers putting their own twist on this trend, there’s definitely something for everyone. Designers like Mara Hoffman and Kate Spade paired cutouts with bold prints and patterns, which is perfect for coverage. Then there was Karla Colletto and Carmen Marc Valvo, which were a bit more modest with the placement of their cutouts; while Suboo and Topshop offered somewhat edgier versions of the trend — revealing cutouts and plunging necklines. The key to this trend is simple. Go with what you feel most comfortable in, which shouldn’t be an issue since there are so many options. And lastly, rejoice. Women everywhere can finally look forward to swimsuit season.
