Throughout the years, the bomber jacket has made countless appearances on the runways, and this season, it returns with a bang. Included in high-end collections, such as V Files, Altuzarra, Kate Spade, and Lacoste, the classic piece is slated to be one of the hottest outwear trends of the winter. At the V Files show, an oversized, chunky bomber made its way down the runway and it fit right in as the designer experimented with fabric and gender fluidity throughout the entire collection. With outerwear being Altuzarra’s specialty, it should come as no surprise that shearling bombers were included in the recent line. Not your usual bomber, Altuzarra’s versions included bold patterns and color-blocking. Even Kate Spade, a designer known for ultra-feminine pieces, couldn’t resist including the jacket-of-the-season in her collection. She paired her leather bomber with cropped flares and a mariniere top, proving that the classic piece can add a bit of an edgy vibe to florals and other feminine patterns, creating a unique juxtaposition. The biggest changes in the classic piece were definitely seen at Lacoste, where shearling bombers came in the form of long, reversible overcoats with bisecting zippers at the waist.

Ready to try this trend for yourself? The key to pulling it off is the fit. Oversized bombers are totally in, but they shouldn’t be so big that they’re falling off. If you want to go with a fitted version of the outerwear staple, make sure it’s snug but not too constricting. As far as styling, the bomber can be paired with everything from kick flares to midi dresses.
