Spring is here. And aside from warmer weather, it brings with it a slew of new fashion trends, including one of the hottest of the season – seaside stripes. Reminiscent of beach umbrellas, lounge chairs, and the Hamptons, this stripe trend is perfect for the lazy days of summer, even if you won’t be spending everyday on the beach. An extension of the classic nautical trend, the stripes of 2017 feature much more of a variety, and with fashion powerhouses like Altuzarra, Zimmermann, and Rosalie Assoulin putting their own spin on the trend, the options are modernized, sleek, and uber-stylish. At Altuzarra, seaside stripes added somewhat of a playful vibe to sexy, body accentuating knit dresses and pencil skirts. The stripes of 2017 fit perfectly in Zimmermann’s spring collection, which the designer described as “sexy pirate.” One of the standouts from the collection, and a great use of this season’s stripes, was a prairie-inspired dress, featuring wraps, tiers, and lace. Perhaps, some of the best examples of the trend were seen at Rosie Assoulin. The line was practically overflowing with pieces that were “just as ready to hit the urban jungle as the shoreline.” Dresses, tops, skirts, and trousers were all outfitted in colorful beach-inspired stripes, perfectly depicting the trend of the season.

The key to this trend is to keep it simple when accessorizing. Let the stripes shine and stick with more muted accessories. Not sure about stripes? Stay away from horizontal stripes if you’re a bit more body conscious; go with vertical, which will elongate your overall appearance.
